Canelo vs. Fielding Betting Odds

Saul ‘Caneloʼ Alvarez (50-1-2) steps up to super middleweight to take on current WBA world champion Rocky Fielding (27-1-0) at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday 15 December.
Mexican star Canelo unified the middleweight division in September with a points decision win over the previously undefeated Gennady Golovkin. Itʼs widely agreed that Canelo was somewhat fortunate to get the decision against Golovkin. The first fight between the pair had ended in a draw, which most observers agreed that Golovkin won fairly conclusively.
Now Canelo is looking to join a fairly exclusive club in becoming a three-weight world champion should he defeat Fielding.
To date, the one blemish on Caneloʼs record is a defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. back in September 2013. The loss cost Canelo his WBC, WBA “regular” and The Ring light middleweight titles. Although Canelo lost the fight by majority decision, most observers conceded that Mayweather was a clear winner on the night.
British boxer Fielding will be making the first defence of his title, having beaten Tyron Zeuge on the Germanʼs home turf six months ago to claim it by TKO in the 5th round. The Liverpudlian has secured 15 of his 27 professional wins by KO, with his one defeat coming against his fellow scouser, the highly-rated Callum Smith, in November 2015. Smith won by TKO in the 1st round to claim the WBC Silver and vacant British super-middleweight titles.
Fielding rebuilt his career following his loss to Smith, including beating John Ryder by split decision for the British title in April 2017. Later in the year, Fielding defended his British title and regained the Commonwealth title with an impressive 1st round KO of the highly-rated Scotsman David Brophy.

Canelo vs. Fielding Betting Tips
Canelo has the experience at the very highest level to make him the overwhelming favourite going into this fight.
For his part, Fielding claims to be delighted to fill the role of rank outsider. “I am really switched on and it is a big step up, but having the fear factor with that step up and the challenge, you perform. I am happy I’ve now got this fear factor.
“For the past couple of fights, I never had that fear factor or never had any real nerves. I just went in there thinking “Let’s fight” and didn’t perform to my best.
Canelo is recognized as an excellent counterpuncher and is also renowned as a formidable body puncher. That could prove to be the decisive factor as the fight develops.
Itʼs difficult to see Fielding having the tools at his disposal to beat the Mexican, but he should be capable of taking him to the later rounds of the fight at least.
Canelo to win the fight at -1600 holds very little appeal, so backing him to secure the win between rounds 10 and 12 looks a much more attractive option at +750 with bet365*.
