Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs (35-3-0) fights Julio Cesar “JC Jr” Chavez Jr. (51-3-1) in this super middleweight bout at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday evening.
The 32 year-old American Jacobs is stepping up to make his debut in this weight division in what will be his first fight since losing his IBF middleweight title belt to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez by unanimous decision back in May.
Having beaten 12 consecutive opponents inside the distance, Jacobs has struggled to finish fights of late, with each of his last five fights having gone to a decision. The two he lost – to “Canelo” and back in 2017, to Gennady Golovkin – were both to absolute elite boxers, but it has to be of some concern that he’s not been finishing fights of late.
The 33 year-old Mexican won his first 46 career fights, but since his lengthy reign as WBC middleweight title holder ended he has lost three of his last eight bouts. He’s had relatively few fights in the last few years, but did see off the Colombian Evert Bravo with a first round KO in August.
Prior to that, he was also beaten by “Canelo”, losing by unanimous decision when the Mexican duo met in May 2017.
There’s some major controversy over this fight even taking place, with serious doubts as to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr’s eligibility to fight after evading VADA drug tests. His relative inactivity of late is the main reason why Daniel Jacobs goes into the fight as an overwhelming bookies favourite. The American has to be the tip to win this fight.
The Fight Result betting odds sees Jacobs at odds of -1667 (1.06) with 888sport, with the draw at +2500 (26.00) at Betway and the best boxing line on Chavez Jr. at +900 (10.00) with bet365.
The ‘Method of Victory’ markets isn’t fully available, but will provide somewhat more attractive boxing odds on Jacobs to win by Decision or Technical Decision.
