Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC meet in the MLS Cup final for the third time in four years at CenturyLink Field on Sunday afternoon.
They first clashed for the title in 2016, when Seattle edged out Toronto 5-4 in a penalty shootout after the game finished 0-0 after 90-minutes regulation time and an additional 30-minute period of extra-time.
The Reds avenged that loss a year later when they beat the defending champions 2-0, with their goals coming from Victor Vazquez and Jozy Altidore. With that win they became the first Canadian soccer team to win the MLS Cup, having already claimed the Supporters’ Shield for the team with the best record over the regular season.
The Reds ability to eliminate former champions was also in evidence this season, as they secured their place in the MLS Cup by winning 2-1 away to Atlanta United in the Eastern Conference final. Prior to that they won 2-1 on the road at New York City FC in the previous round, so another away day isn’t something they will fear.
Seattle were on the road themselves in the Western Conference final, beating this season’s Supporters’ Shield winner, LAFC, 3-1.
Although home advantage is with the Seattle Sounders, this season’s play-offs have already seen a number of upsets from teams winning on the road, so Toronto FC certainly can’t be overlooked in any MLS final 2019 predictions.
The best betting line on Seattle is at +113 (2.13) in the Match Result odds (90-minutes) with Sports Interaction, with the draw at +278 (3.78) with Sports Interaction and Toronto at +300 (4.00) with bet365.
The Asian Handicap market is where we go for our tip though, with Toronto +0.5 available at odds of -105 (1.95) at 888Sport. That’s a winning bet so long as Toronto don’t lose the match in the regulation 90-minutes.
