The card is headlined by the championship title fight in the Welterweight division as Tyron Woodley will look to successfully defend his belt for the second time in three months against number one contender Steven Thompson.
The results from the first meeting couldn’t have been any closer as Woodley retained his belt by the slimmest of margins as he won by the majority draw by one vote over a relentless Thompson at UFC 205 back in November.
In an interesting twist of fate the current betting line from Bet365 actually have Steven Thompson (13-1-1) listed as the favourite to win the fight paying 1.58 on the money line. Woodley (16-3-1) is listed as the underdog paying a tempting 2.40 odds on the Bet365 money line. This fight should be a great one as anytime two fighters with contrasting style meet in the octagon, it allows for uncertainty, and usually leads to great theater. Thompson is a five time kick-boxing champion and prefers to be vertical. Woodley on the other hand is a prolific wrestler and Brazilian jiu jitsu fighter and prefers to spend most of his time on the mat.
The second title fight on the card is yet another compelling one as undefeated Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov will put his 24-0-0 record on the line against number two ranked contender Tony Ferguson (23-3-0). The Russian born Nurmagomedov is heavily favoured paying 1.57 on the moneyline and will look to earn his first championship title belt of a hard fought career. The red hot Ferguson on the other hand will be looking for his tenth consecutive victory on Saturday night and is paying 2.50 on the money line. Ferguson is one of the most diverse fighters in the lightweight division with seven different fighting styles in his repertoire making him a difficult opponent to strategize against.
